The Indian tax cycle in one paragraph
India taxes income earned during the FY (April-March) but assesses it during the next year (the AY). Within an FY, salaried employees face monthly TDS, four advance-tax instalments, and quarterly TDS returns from employers. Self-employed and businesses also have GST monthly/quarterly returns. After the FY ends, ITR filing opens around June for individuals.

Tips for staying on top of dates
Set monthly calendar reminders for the 7th (TDS deposit) and 15th (advance tax / TDS return)
Submit Form 12BB declaration in April so monthly TDS is computed correctly
Submit final investment proofs by November to avoid Feb-Mar TDS spike
File ITR by 31 July even if estimated — revise later if needed; this protects loss-carry-forward and avoids late fees
